A day long National Conference by BELTA held at JUST
Bangladesh English Language Teachers Association (BELTA) National Conference-2023 was held at Jashore University of Science and Technology (JUST) on the theme 'Rethinking English Language Teaching-Learning Practice'. The JUST Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Anwar Hossain Inaugurated the national conference in the gallery of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Academic Building of the university on Saturday morning.
While speaking as the chief guest, Professor Dr. Md Anwar Hossain said, our mother tongue is Bengali and the mother tongue of science is English. For this reason, there is no alternative to mastering the English language in teaching and learning. He said that before the university level, a student studies English for 12 years from primary to higher secondary. But even at the university level, they cannot adapt themselves to study in the English version. Why does it so happen? He called for solutions to find out exactly where the problem lies in our education system.
He said that the importance of BELTA's contribution to the spread of English education in Bangladesh after the pandemic is immense. He also thanked the BELTA organizers for organizing the National Conference at JUST Campus.
Ahmed Bashir, President of BELTA and Professor of English Department of Dhaka University, was the convener of the conference. The main article was presented in the conference by Dr. Rubina Khan, immediate past president of BELTA and professor of English department in Dhaka University. She discussed in detail about CPD and IPD methods to acquire skills for imparting education.
Chairman of the English Department of JUST. Md. Munibur Rahman presided over the conference while the BELTA President Prof. Ahmed Bashir also spoke. Dhaka University English Department teacher Professor Dr. Tajin Aziz Chowdhury, BELTA general secretary Dr. Md. Mohib Ullah, Associate Professor of English Department Dr. Md. Abdullah Al Mamun, Dr. Maryam Jamila, assistant professor Dr. Farzana Nasreen, Md. Abdul Halim, Abdullah Al Mamun, Farhana Yasmin, Lecturer Tabassum Islam Nabani, Tushmit Mehruba, Mahmudur Rahman Siam and others took part in the conference. More than 150 teachers from schools, colleges and universities in different parts of the country participated while 60 articles and presentation were presented in the workshops. And a panel discussion enriched this event. The inaugural program was conducted by Koraisha bint Humayun and Tasnim Mahbooba, two students of English department of JUST.
